Hey Crestwinds! This will probably be one of my last few post in the blog.. Sad to say, the Sec 4s and Sec 5s are stepping down in a week's time.

Once the seniors step down,
Sec 3s, you have to step up and take the band. I know it is not easy to come out of your comfort zone and do something you've never tried before. But you can't always be dependent on your seniors and leaders. In a week's time, you have to be independent already. Why do you think Mrs Tay refuse to say who's on probation? It's because you are not ready yet, and she wants to see that you're truly ready before she gives you your post. Do your best in taking care of the band. "Do" not "Try".
Sec 2s, you're the senior of the Sec 1s, it's time to show an example of being a senior instead of hiding behind your seniors. I know that most of you are already doing your best in improving and playing with confidence, but it is not enough, you have to play out more so that any mistakes can be corrected. Some of you may even have to step up to take a leadership post, that is inevitable, so my advice is, Do your best in all that you can.
Sec 1s, you're one very lucky batch - first batch to be taught by Ms Loh. It is definitely a privilege that your seniors didn't get to experience. By JBIC, you should be able to have an idea what band is all about, you have 8 more months to be a junior, cherish it, but don't "hide"!

I know that there were a lot of problems back then. Lots of you struggled through your ups and downs, be it in band or anywhere else. I just want to remind you that you are not the only one struggling, and lets hope that this year, all of you can be motivated to make music and not just coming to band to fulfill your attendance.

As for the Sec 4s and 5s, I really hope you can come back to help your juniors even after you step down. We are lucky to be the first batch of alumni under Mr Lim, so lets cherish it. We don't only have 1 week left, instead, we have our whole life to come back to crestwinds to help Mr Lim and our band.

Etude Challenge 2012 - Sunday, 18 March 2012

On 16 March 2012, we embarked on a journey to Regent Secondary School for an exchange with Mr Lim's 3 other bands, Shuqun Wind Orchestra (SWO), Regent Wind Symphony (RWS) and Peirce Wind Symphony (PWS) a.k.a the Etude Challenge 2012!
It was great experience as we learned a lot from the whole process. Most importantly, you reap what you sow, people who practiced felt great as they could clear the challenge easily, however for those who didn't, they could only feel bad for not practicing enough.
So i strongly urge all you people out there to strive for the best! Come for practice if you have the time. I believe not all of you are studying 24/7 right? Surely band does not take up so much of your "curriculum" time. The etude challenge was definitely a great lesson learned, lets not embarrass ourselves again when we meet the other schools for P.O.P all right? I believe if we put in our 100%, we will REAP what we SOW.

Updates for January - Thursday, 19 January 2012

First of all, HAPPY NEW YEAR. The band has been pretty much mundane in 2011 after SYF but we're starting off 2012 well!

The band welcomes our new instructors,
Mr Lim Yean Hwee - Band Director
Ms Loh Wan Shan - Assistant Band Director

Although its only the start of January, it felt like we've done a lot more things than 2011! The making of banners, souvenirs and practicing of Hawaii 5-O for our CCA open house really gives the impression of the unity crestwinds. And although it's ONLY January, most of us have already attended 1 concert, and for some of us 2. Compared to last year when we only attend concerts once every 6 months. I hope that this unity will stay on and be carried out during sectionals, combine, fall in!

Miscellaneous things to take note of:
1) Pencils - one pencil each file for every practice would be ideal.
2) Watches - to be taken off during practice & fall in.
3) Bags - place them neatly with your section in your own spot before practice.
I/C: Section leaders
4) Attire - uniformity! Band tee means band tee, uniform means uniform. No ankle socks. No unbuttoned collar button.
I/C: Welfare officers
5) Band fund - collected monthly, $2 every month.
I/C: Treasurer

Overall I/C: Executive Committee

Announcement:
1) Those who have yet to pay Adriana $5.50, please do so ASAP.
2) Duty roster will be put up, please be prepared for your duties!
3) Homework to be "submitted" by 1st February!
- Ab, Bb, C, D Major Scales
- Ab, Bb, C Chromatic Scales
- Etude No. 2: Staccato Eighth Notes (The chicken rice, pizza & black coffee challenge)

Question: Why does the french horn bell face the back of the audience?

And for the Chinese, Happy Chinese New Year! :)

Last practice with the instructors. - Tuesday, 29 November 2011

Yesterday was the last practice with Mr Goh, Mr Shah, Mr Subronto and Mr Shukor. We wish them all a fruitful journey ahead and their valuable teachings will continue to stay in our heart. May we give off our best with the next batch of instructors that comes in!
